About Vietnamese Community Health at UCLA

Vietnamese Community Health at UCLA is a student-led organization based at the University of California - Los Angeles that provides comprehensive health services and community outreach to underserved populations in Orange County and the greater Los Angeles area. Founded in 2006 by five UCLA students with the mission of improving health equity, VCH has grown to over 60 active members dedicated to addressing health disparities through culturally-responsive programming.

The organization operates biweekly health sites conveniently located at the Asian Garden Mall in Little Saigon, where volunteers conduct free hypertension and BMI screenings tailored to address the high prevalence of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases in the Vietnamese community. VCH also organizes quarterly Health Fairs that bring together physicians, dentists, pharmacists, optometrists, and other healthcare providers to offer free consultations and comprehensive health screenings. These events provide critical early detection opportunities while addressing linguistic, socioeconomic, and cultural barriers that prevent community members from accessing quality healthcare.

Beyond clinical screenings, VCH volunteers serve as cultural liaisons and translators, ensuring patients receive compassionate, linguistically-appropriate care. The organization provides health education resources, preventative care tools, and practical support ranging from toothbrushes to follow-up lab result translation. Recently expanding their reach, VCH has developed programming for younger children and the Hispanic community, fostering a culturally-sensitive approach that targets lifestyle changes across all generations.

VCH is committed to developing the next generation of healthcare professionals through hands-on volunteer opportunities, mentorship programs, and professional development workshops. The organization welcomes volunteers from all backgrounds and offers internship positions for students seeking meaningful community health experience in the Los Angeles area.
