Vietnamese American Services (VAS) is a comprehensive non-profit organization serving the Vietnamese-American community in Silver Spring, MD with a full range of culturally responsive programs and services. Since 2015, VAS has developed an extensive portfolio of direct services designed to address the diverse needs of Vietnamese immigrants and their families, including those facing language barriers and systemic challenges. The organization operates multiple core programs including an Adult Day Care Center providing daily senior care and support, Senior Wellness initiatives including the Senior Club, and Affordable Healthcare Access services that connect community members to critical medical resources. VAS also offers Social Benefits Access assistance, Food Assistance programs, and comprehensive Adult ESL Classes ranging from conversational English to citizenship preparation and workplace English development. Additionally, the organization has launched the NextGen Initiative in 2024 to empower Vietnamese-American youth through community service and career development opportunities. Beyond direct services, VAS hosts significant cultural events such as the annual Mid-Autumn Festival and Senior Appreciation Day that strengthen community bonds and engagement. With bilingual staff providing accessible advocacy and support, VAS has delivered over 70,000 services to more than 5,000 community members. The organization's Environmental Advocacy initiative ensures equitable access to green living resources and sustainable community projects. VAS continues to expand its offerings while maintaining its grassroots approach, listening directly to community needs and implementing evidence-based programs that promote health, wellness, and successful integration into American society.
